Purpose
The Pump Control Valve, Non-Return Valve, Surge Relief Valve, Air Admission Valve and Surge Anticipation Valve protect against a pump motor trip out and minimize pressure surges (water hammer) in pipelines, typically on a mine dewatering system. A column Drain Valve and Dissipator are usually incorporated to drain the column. Pump column protection is required on every mine dewatering system to eliminate/minimise the risk of bursting a pipe due to pressure spikes (water hammer) caused by:
- High velocities
- Rapid velocity changes
- Separation cavitation changes
- Uncontrolled pump stop (trip)
- Uncontrolled pump start (valve open)
- Poor valve selection, setting or maintenance
- Inadequate selection, setting or maintenance
- Rapid closing/opening or worn Pump Control Valve
- Non Return Valve slam/reverse velocity
- No Air Admission Valve
HPE can offer a full system that includes
- Pump Column Control Valve
- Manual Isolation (Column Drain Valve)
- Surge Relief Valve
- Non Return Valve
- Air Admission Valve
- Energy Dissipator
- Surge Anticipation System
